A man and his wife have been fired for racially abusing a Lyft driver.
One of the passengers, who is only identified as ‘Joe’ from Issaquah in Washington, was captured on film hurling racist abuse at driver David Kangogo.
Joe and his wife were subsequently fired by their employers after a video of the incident went viral.
In the video, which was posted on Instagram earllier this week, Joe can repeatedly be heard calling Kangogo a “f***ing sand [N-word]”.
At one point, his wife urges appears to realise the incident is being recorded and him to stop, repeating “you’re being filmed”.
She then proceeds to tell the driver that he should “never drive Lyft again”.
She later adds: “We expected a Lyft drive home.”
Then, towards the end of the encounter, Joe even threatens to urinate in the driver’s car.
He says: “I’ll feel better when I p*** in here.”
He approaches the car but does not actually urinate.
On Instagram, people said it was “simply disgusting” and “horrid”.
All of this reportedly took place after Joe and his wife refused to wear a mask in the vehicle.
Thankfully, the couple had their comeuppance.
In addition to being fired, Joe told theNew York Post that the couple had also been evicted from their rental home.
He has since apologised and blamed his behaviour on being drunk.
In an email statement, Joe wrote: “I should have never said the things I said nor acted like a complete idiot. He didn’t deserve that. Nobody does.”
Joe continued: “ I had too much to drink and lost control of my tongue and I said horrible things that I truly regret.”
He also asked for the “forgiveness” and “mercy” of everyone.
