A puppy with an extra tail on his head has been declared the “best boy”.
The 10-week-old pup, who has since been named Narwhal, was rescued by an animal rescue centre after he was found abandoned in Jackson, Missouri.
He has since gone viral online, after the rescuers at Mac’s Mission, a non-profit dog rescue which predominantly helps puppies with special needs, shared photos of the unique dog.
“Narwhal is the puppy we need in this world,” one person wrote on Twitter.
Another said: “Please don’t talk to me unless it’s about the puppy named Narwhal born with a tail growing out of his head.”
This is Narwhal. He was born with an extra tail on his forehead. It hasn’t wagged yet but he’s working on it. 14/10… https://t.co/2aYAjlCU1s— cuteanimalvines (@cuteanimalvines) 1573663265

And, according to rescuers, Narwhal, who is thought to be a Dachshund and Beagle mix, is “perfectly healthy” just the way he is.
“He had x-rays and a vet visit yesterday and is a perfectly healthy puppy, with an extra tail on his face,” Mac’s Mission founder Rochelle Steffen told ABC News. “There is no medical need to remove it currently.”
The extra tail, which has prompted comparisons to a unicorn, is a third of the size of Narwhal’s actual tail, according to Steffen, who added: “He is in no pain and plays for hours.”
Narwhal has since dedicated his life to raising awareness of other pups who need special attention - as if we needed another reason to love Narwhal.
“I don’t understand what viral is but my foster mama said my story being viral helps ALL our special needs dogs here at the Mission,” Narwhal (his foster family) wrote on Facebook. “I am super excited for being the poster child for ‘special is awesome.’”
For those asking, Narwhal is not able to wag his second tail, as it is “not connected to anything”.
