With Republican presidential candidates spewing anti-Muslim brain vomit left, right and centre, the depressing poll results from North Carolina that surfaced on Tuesday are not as shocking as they should be.
As the New York Times notes, the poll is from just one state, traditionally conservative North Carolina, and only sampled a few hundred Republican voters.
However, the results to questions about Islam were worrying.
When asked “Do you think a Muslim should ever be allowed to be President, or not?", only 16 per cent of people responded yes. 72 per cent said no, and 12 per cent said they were unsure.
Another question - “Do you think the religion of Islam should be legal or illegal in the United States?" - was answered 40 per cent of the time as yes, 40 per cent of the time as no, and 20 per cent of people said they were unsure.
It was recently revealed that up to half of Republican voters still think Barack Obama is a Muslim.
What a time to be alive.
