Instagram / Sophie Turner
Sophie Turner is a plus-size model - like many Instagram users, she's not simply using the photo sharing platform to showcase her work, she's also taking the time to post empowering messages on body image and representation.
Turner recently shared a photo and admitted that, when she first saw it, she was angry.
She explains:
I was angry when I saw this pic because ff my cellulite - It was on my mind but why should it ?
She adds that she is, "more than cellulite".
It’s natural for us ladies to have cellulite and we need to stop seeing it as disgusting or ugly.
Yes we all want smooth skin but we also need to accept reality! I’ve had cellulite since I was about 12 which is normal.
After living with something for a decade it’s all apart of being me! And I’m still learning to love it and not hate it- it’s a slow road to #selflove but it’s the best thing you can do for your confidence and mental health.
People were very supportive in her comments:
Earlier this year British model Charli Howard decided it was time to speak out about her cellulite too, after posting a series of body-positive pictures.
She wrote:
Despite the fact I speed walk everywhere, squat, run and occasionally do @pure_barre, I'm still left with cellulite.
I went to an all-girls' boarding school and really used to envy the girls in my class who seemingly had none, and whose bodies looked, to me, nothing less than perfect.
As a result, I felt like my cellulite was shameful, or an oddity. It wasn't until I got older and saw other women's bodies that I realised HOW BLOODY NATURAL IT IS. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
