New photos released by St Louis County police show the extent of injuries suffered by Darren Wilson, the policeman who shot dead unarmed teenager Michael Brown in August.
There had been conflicting reports in the aftermath of the shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, as to the injuries suffered by Wilson - with some reports suggesting he had suffered a broken eye socket in the confrontation.
Documents released by the county police last night show that Wilson gave evidence on the day after the shooting (10th August) describing an altercation with a young man who swore at him and fought with him in the police car.
Those files also showed photos of Wilson when he was being treated at the Christian Northwest Hospital in St Louis - the images were provided in evidence to the grand jury who were to decide whether Wilson was guilty on charges ranging from involuntary manslaughter to murder.
His medical file from the hospital shows he had a "contusion" to his face/scalp/neck and other unspecified injuries to the face and neck.
The grand jury found "no probable cause” to file any charge against Wilson, with their decision at 8pm last night sparking protests across the country.
