Fleabag began life as an Edinburgh show and ended up conquering the world.
This week Phoebe Waller-Bridge received the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy and she had an amazing joke to mark the occasion.
At the end of 2019, Barack Obama produced his annual list of cultural highlights and name-checked the second series of Fleabag as a work of art he’d enjoyed greatly.
Those with long memories were keen to point out that the erstwhile president was actually referenced in the first series of Fleabag back in 2016 when the title character was depicted, ahem, enjoying herself while watching one of his speeches.
Master of her domain? Far from it.
Accepting her Golden Globe, the writer and star said:
Personally I’d like to also thank Obama for putting us on his list. And as some of you may know, he’s always been on mine.
One can't imagine it was a moment Waller-Bridge ever dreamed of while debuting the show in a tiny room in Scotland.
As you can probably guess people loved this subtle nod to this explicit scene.
More: Obama is a Fleabag fan which means he’s watched that very NSFW scene about him
More: Phoebe Waller-Bridge's version of Love Island might be better than the real thing
