Star Trek fans, rejoice. The news we've all been waiting for has arrived: Sir Patrick Stewart will be reprising the role of Jean-Luc Picard in a new series of Star Trek.
The beloved character will feature in a new CBS All Access series that will chronicle his life after Star Trek: The Next Generation and, to put it lightly, people are stoked.
The actor made the announcement during a surprise appearance at the annual Star Trek convention in Los Angeles on Saturday, much to his fans' excitement, reports the BBC.
Speaking to the crowd, he said:
I will always be very proud to have been a part of the Star Trek: The Next Generation, but when we wrapped that final movie in the spring of 2002, I truly felt my time with Star Trek had run its natural course.
He continued:
It is an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions with him.
He also announced the news on Twitter:
