Millennials, Baby Boomers and Gen X: the best and worst parenting styles according to a teacher

Schools are gearing up for school fairs, parent-teacher meetings and calls about good (and not-so-good) behaviour…

It’s an exciting time to be a student – and a parent.

A teacher on imgur decided to share some of their experiences with different kinds of parents – Baby Boomers, Millennials and Generation Xers.

The teacher listed three categories: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, spaghetti western style.

Baby Boomers.

These parents were born between 1946 and 1964, and matured during the Breakfast Club days.

The best things about them is that they’re ‘invested in their children and their futures’, and tend to listen to the advice given by the teacher.

Saying that, this parent demographic tends to also be the ‘impatient and demanding ones’.

And what’s the ugliest thing about this group? They think ‘they know best about everything'.

Nothing is more frustrating than having someone completely unexperienced with your profession tell you how to do it.

Gen X.

Parents of this category are born between around 1961 and 1981, and mature at the turn of the century. So think the first Harry Potter movies.

Those in this category are the opposite of baby boomers in that they don’t seem to have much time for their kids.

They just don't seem to invest too much time or emotional support into them, and instead put most of it into themselves and their partner.

Still, these parents have a good sense of humour and tend to be the ones that provide for their children ‘materially.’

The worst thing about these parents are the ones who ‘don’t discipline their kids in any way.’

No matter what you tell these parents, and no matter what their child has done, they always shift the blame to someone else.

A quick side note: The largest amount of anti-vax, pseudo-science/homeopathic medicine-believing parents I've had to deal with belong to this generation.

The Millennials.

These are the avocado-eating, Instagram-loving, social justice warriors and the latest generation of parents.

The good: Polite, good listeners, really take my advice to heart, care about their kids.

These parents, while generally good at disciplining their children, tend to be ‘timid, naïve and tend to overreact'.

And the worst types? They either believe their child can do no wrong. Or ‘go into Gordon Ramsay-esque tirades on their children. It’s scary'.

These points are anecdotal and should be taken with a healthy helping of salt.
