Just when you think president Trump is bad, his son Donald Trump Jr. finds a way to prove that, when it comes to America’s first family, the bar can always be lowered.

Trump Jr., who has a history of posting offensive things on social media, decided to invent his own Oscars category: “Best performance in a politically motivated hate crime hoax”.

Trump asked his followers to choose between so-called nominees in his imagined category. He lumped Jussie Smollett, who has been charged with filing a false police report relating to an alleged “hate crime” in January, with Christine Blasey Ford, who testified before the Senate that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her as a teenager. An FBI investigation into Ford’s claims was inconclusive and Empire actor Smolett denies all charges against him.

Trump’s third “nominee” was Nathan Phillips, the Native American activist involved in a caught-on-camera confrontation with a group of MAGA hat-wearing students from Covington Catholic High School. The story has been widely disputed, with both the boys and Phillips claiming to be victims.

Twitter users were quick to condemn the president's son for mocking such serious allegations.
