OnlyFans have backtracked their decision after much criticism of their ‘porn ban’ – just days after their initial announcement that they would “prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually-explicit conduct.”
The subscription-based platform, which has secured over 130 million users, and has a staggering 2 million creators, has “secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community”, after reports earlier in the week suggested that the company was struggling to secure investment.
OnlyFans’ explicit nature scared off venture capitalists due to strict policies prohibiting apps that publish pornographic content – forcing the platform to put the ‘porn ban’ in place.
They since took to their official Twitter account on Wednesday to thank everyone for making their voices heard, before dropping the all-important news that they “have suspended the planned October 1 policy change.”
“OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators”, they added. The company said that it would be sending official communications to creators “shortly”.
OnlyFans creator, Michelle De Feo, told Indy100 that she no longer trusts the platform. “In all honesty, I don’t trust them at all now – I have a feeling they may just drag the date out”, she said.
“We haven’t received any emails, yet they decide to tweet this. It doesn’t make sense that they wouldn’t contact their content creators.
“Really is pathetic on their behalf I must say and makes it even more stressful for us who create the content.”
People flocked to Twitter to express their thoughts on the platform’s indecisiveness. One joked that “bullying worked”, while another wasn’t convinced by their decision, warning creators, “if you decide to stay on onlyfans pull your money out as often as you can. don’t trust these motherf***ers.”
