Theresa May’s choice of shoes have been a hot topic in the media lately, prompting a bemused response from the Prime Minister.

On Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain, of all the questions Piers Morgan could have asked the leader of Britain, he asked her about her shoes.

To which she said:

It is interesting people focus on my shoes. I don’t think they focus on Philip Hammond’s or Boris Johnson’s in quite the same way.

In fact, the fashion choices of male politician's female spouses have been a long established topic in the press.

Samantha Cameron often made the news for what she wore at Conservative party events as did Miriam Clegg when husband Nick was at the heart of government.

There even seems to be a tradition to release what the Prime Minister’s partner wears to annual party conferences.

In 2014 it was Miriam Clegg’s £89 yellow skirt choice:

Not only were her clothes covered, but her ‘love’ of Zara and Spanish brand Dolores Promesas were also hot topics for discussion.

The practise is often criticised for being sexist, and last year Labour party politician Rupa Huq wrote about Westminister's sexism at length.

On Wednesday, the Huffington Postnoticed that no details of what Phillip May - Theresa May's husband - wore to the final day of the Convservative party conference were released.

When contacted by indy100, the No 10 press office refused to comment on the matter.
