Nick Clegg: you shouldn't go to prison for possessing drugs

Nick Clegg has said people whose only crime is possessing drugs for their own use should not go to prison. He told The Sun:

At the moment we are doing an utterly senseless thing - chucking the people who need treatment behind bars so they become even more vulnerable to the criminal gangs who exploited them in the first place...

There are millions of Sun readers who know intuitively that it does not make sense chucking a 22-year-old into prison for the possession of cannabis. The people who should be behind bars ate the criminal gangs, the Mr Bigs.
