An anti-Trump protestor and NHS worker has apologised after a video of her screaming 'Nazi scum' at a Trump supporter before he was covered in milkshake went viral.
Siobhan Prigent, who is based in London, took to Twitter to say that she was 'very sorry' for her behaviour at Parliament Square on Tuesday.
In the now-viral footage, shared by LBC senior reporter Matthew Thompson, Ms Prigent can be seen repeatedly shouting 'Nazi scum' at a Trump protestor in an aggressive manner, before laughing when he's covered in milkshake by another protestor.
The man shouts back at the crowd that he is 'here to stay', before throwing the empty cup back at the protestors, while a police officer attempts to calm down the incident, and prevent it from getting violent.
In the now-deleted tweet, the Daily Mail reports she wrote:
I am very sorry for my behaviour today. I should have protested peacefully & I didn't, & I regret that.Â
I've let myself down & I do understand that fully. There are two sides to every story, but my actions were my own, & that's on me. Please leave my family & friends out of it.
The woman, whose social media profiles show that she works for the NHS, with a focus on mental health treatment, also pleaded with people to 'leave my family and friends out of it'.
After the footage of Ms Prigent went viral, many social media users condemned her behaviour, labelling her 'embarrassing', 'vile' and 'intolerant'.
Her apology comes as the Trump supporter spoke out about his treatment to the MailOnline, claiming that he had attended the protest to 'protect democracy'.
Speaking to the paper, he said:
We have to put forward how aggressive the left can be - it's not us, you know if they want to call me right wing because I'm supporting Trump then I must be right wing, but I'm not a racist.
Speaking about the moment he was attacked, he added:
I came out to support Trump, to stop the left who since we voted for Brexit have been protesting against democracy.
This is the democratically elected president of the free world. I just wanted a debate with the sensible left, I didn't expect any of what happened. I never wanted it to get violent, but I wasn't going to be intimidated.
Explaining his support of Donald Trump to The Sun, he said:
He’s done more than he said he was going to do for America. He’s true to his word when he said he wants to make America great again.
This is the democratically elected president of the free world. I just wanted a debate with the sensible left, I didn't expect any of what happened. I never wanted it to get violent, but I wasn't going to be intimidated.
The phenomenon of 'milkshaking' first occurred earlier this year, when far-right activist Tommy Robinson was covered in a drink while he was campaigning for the European elections. Nigel Farage was also doused in milkshake while on the Brexit Party campaign trail for the European elections.
The phenomenon has now spread to America, where Republican representative Matt Gaertz was hit by a milkshake by a Democrat in Florida. The latest instance of 'milkshaking' comes as the president of the United States Donald Trump embarks on a three-day state visit of the United Kingdom.
