Nancy Pelosi made an ever-so-subtle dig at Melania Trump's citizenship while criticising Donald Trump's new immigration plan on Wednesday.
Speaking at a Commonwealth Club of California event in San Francisco, the House Speaker said that Trump's proposed merit-based immigration plan is really just another way to "make America white again".
She then continued to take a dig at the First Lady, who was born in Slovenia, saying:
I don’t know if merit counted for when his wife’s family came into the country.
I don’t know. Maybe it did. God bless them if it did. But he calls that ‘chain migration,’ which he wants to get rid of.
She then added:
Should we attach a green card to the diploma of so many scientists and engineers and all the rest and graduate students who train in the U.S. so that they can stay here?
Of course. But that’s not the point. The point is that the president does not share the view of even Ronald Reagan and two Bushes in recent history.
Trump's latest proposal on immigration, which was detailed in a speech in the White House Rose Garden last week, includes restricting family-based migration and increasing the number of visa's for skilled workers.
