Miley Cyrus made an important statement about consent after a man grabbed her by the neck and forcibly kissed her following a live performance in Barcelona.
The 26-year-old singer posted footage of the assault on her Instagram account, in which a man grabs her hair and then her neck, pulls her towards him and forcibly kisses her head. The singer is shaken, before she yanks out of his hold and quickly walks into a waiting car.
Cyrus captioned the clip with the following fighting words: “She can be wearing what she wants. She can be a virgin.
She can be sleeping with 5 different people. She can be with her husband. She can be with her girlfriend. She can be naked. She CAN’T be grabbed without her consent. #DontFuckWithMyFreedom.
She also reposted abusive messages she received telling her she was asking to be touched without her consent because of the way she was dressed. “Don’t f**k with my freedom,” she told them, followed by "#stillnotaskingforit".
People online threw their support behind the singer.
Fans from Barcelona expressed remorse.
Miley tweeted #stillnotaskingforit.
"CLOTHES DO NOT EQUAL CONSENT."
