The Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) saw a range of absurd and heated exchanges – from the president's bull**** comment to Trump Jr’s offensive #MeToo remarks – but one conservative commentator took it too far after she mocked “the ghost of John McCain” in her speech on Friday.

Fox News contributor and right-wing blogger Michelle Malkin was met with a standing ovation, after taking a dig at the late senator, who died in August 2018 following a battle with brain cancer.

Malkin, who used her stage time to slam undocumented immigrants and the politicians defending their right to stay, said:

Sanctuary cities have metastasised and both parties are to blame.

Yes, I’m looking at you, retired Paul Ryan and yes, I’m looking at you, Mitch McConnell, and yes, I’m looking at you, Bush family.

I’m looking at you, the ghost of John McCain

While her insensitive comments – made while she angrily pointed a finger at the sky – were met with cheers in the room, McCain's wife, Cindy McCain, took to Twitter to voice her response, – and she was angry.

The late senator's daughter and The View host, Meghan McCain, also responded on Twitter by posting an old selfie of her father and the caption: "illegitimi non carborundum", which is Latin for "don't let the b**tards* grind you down".

But Malkin didn't stop there, as she hit back with a tweet linked to an old blog post by Cindy McCain, entitled:

Meet the open borders family: McCain, Hernandez, Soros and the "Reform Institute".

Naturally, the disrespectful dig at the late senator did not go unnoticed, as many supporters gathered on Twitter to express their outrage.

Has no one ever told Malkin that it's not a good idea to make ghosts angry?
