Melania Trump has released a PSA, telling people how to stay safe during the coronavirus pandemic, which completely goes against everything that her husband has said so far.
In a video that the First Lady shared on Twitter on Thursday, Melania reiterated the CDC advice of wearing a mask in public places, especially in areas social distancing can be difficult, such as the supermarket.
We dare say that this is pretty sage advice from Melania, who adds:
Remember, this does not replace the importance of social distancing. It is another recommended guideline to keep us all safe.
Golly, this could be the most intelligent and helpful thing a Trump has ever said and repeats the advice that she gave in a tweet just a few days ago.
It's just too bad that the actual president isn't saying things like this.
For anyone that has witnessed the president's daily coronavirus task force briefings, you'll be aware that social distancing isn't something that he and his colleagues are too good at.
Trump has also said that he doesn't plan on wearing a face mask, despite it being part of the actual advice dished out by the White House.
He was even asked at a briefing earlier this month, why he wasn't following his own advice to which he said:
I just don't choose to. They are not mandatory guidelines, they are guidelines. They suggest you could wear them, you don't have to wear them.
Wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens — I just don't see it.
The response to Melania's video has mostly been along the lines but many were confused as to why she was holding the mask, rather than actually wearing it.
Trump has been heavily criticised for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic with more than 427,000 cases confirmed in the US, more than any other country in the world.
