Meghan McCain and American comedian Joy Behar got into a heated argument over Donald Trump, forcing Whoopi Goldberg to hastily intervene.
The View hosts were discussing Trump’s crowd size for his campaign announcement on Tuesday, with McCain suggesting that the reason he might be re-elected is because his fans hate what he hates – immigrants and black people.
McCain said: “One of my producers this morning was saying, ‘Why do people love him so much?’ Sometimes it’s not just that they love Trump so much, it’s that they hate the same things Trump hates. That’s what’s going on.”
“Who?” Behar interjects. “Black people you mean? And immigrants? Who do they hate? Who do they hate?”
At this point McCain becomes visibly irate and says: “You know I come here open-minded just trying to explain it. And it’s not a fun job for me every day.”
“Who do they hate?” Behar repeats.
“I know you’re angry,” McCain responds. “I get it that you’re angry that Trump’s president. Like a lot of people are-“
Behar again interrupts her: “I’m angry at every single thing he’s doing.”
McCain ploughs ahead: “I don’t think yelling at me is gonna fix the problem. I just said it was hard for me to watch Linsdey Graham who I considered an uncle for a long time.”
I’m trying to explain why 2020 is not in the bag for you. It’s not!
At this point, fellow host Goldberg swoops in to diffuse the heated situation: “OK guys. OK. It’s a great discussion and we can go back to it but I just need everybody to take a beat.”
McCain laughed and told them:
Being the sacrificial Republican every day… don’t feel bad for me b****! I get paid to be here!
After things calmed down on set and McCain insisted the pair were friends and were merely engaged in a spirited debate, Behar said: “I don’t care if you call me a b****.”
