The safety of the world remains a source of endless debate, and Donald Trump's inauguration into one of the most powerful positions in the world will only heat it up further.

A recent YouGov poll, surveyed 9,000 people across eight western countries in order to determine how close its citizens think we are to a major war.

Here is a map, using a scale of 1, which means world peace, and 10, which means war:

The US and France are the most pessimistic (or is it realistic?) countries of the eight surveyed.

64 per cent of Americans and French citizens fear that we are close to another global war.

Next is Britain (61 per cent) and Germany (63 per cent), both with results averaging '6'.

Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark all score between 5.9 and 5, meaning that they believe the world to be closer to war than peace.
