"If you would have told me $1,500 I would have been happy!"
An army veteran recently had his watch valued on Antiques Roadshow, and the footage of the valuation of the rare GMT Master Model Rolex is going viral.
He bought the watch when he was stationed in Germany in 1960, just before he returned to America, for $120 (which was more than a month’s salary for him at the time).
He bought the watch on the recommendation of his sergeant - he’d never heard of the brand before then.
It turns out the watch was the first model of its kind ever made – and its value turned out to be higher because the owner kept all the boxes and paperwork that went with it.
The owner hoped it would now be worth around $1,500, but that guess was a little off the mark.
It was, in fact, valued at around $65,000 to $75,000 – and called a:
very, very collectable watch.
His reaction is definitely tear-inducing.
