The meaning of this man's Chinese symbol tattoo is hilarious

Chinese symbol tattoos have never been cool on Caucasian men.

They are nice if you want to commemorate someone or something in your native language - but if you can't speak the language then what's the point?

Knowing how cringeworthy they can be, one man decided to go one step further and get the worst/best/hilarious Chinese symbol tattoo ever.

Cody Williams from Milwaukie, Oregon opted for a tattoo that would look really cool to anyone with no understanding with the Chinese language.

Whereas speakers of the language, will probably be in stitches.

"What does it say?" you might ask.

I do not know, I do not speak Chinese.

Huh? No, that's what it actually says.

OK, we could be hear all day so here's a picture of the tattoo that was shared by Cody's friend on Reddit.

The tattoo has since gone viral and become a meme but what on Earth convinced Cody to get this on his arm?

Speaking to Lad Bible he explained his reasoning:

I'd always liked the way Chinese symbols look, but hate that everyone always gets generic meanings tattooed like 'love', 'hope', 'courage' and stuff like that which gets old.

I also knew I'd constantly have a lot of people asking me what my tattoo said if I decided to get Chinese symbols on me and thought of this as a clever way to mess with almost everyone I meet and give us both a good laugh.

Cody did his research and consulted a friend who speaks fluent Chinese, as to not make any mistakes.

He got the tattoo three years ago, with the colour added earlier this month, but it has only recently gone viral after being shared online.

Luckily for Cody he has no regrets about the body art at all.

He adds:

I got this three years ago, when I was 19, and I still love it.

I can even picture myself as a grandfather being asked what my tattoo says and telling my grandchildren, "I don't know, I don't speak Chinese."

And never explaining it to them as they get older.

We're not sure how well that joke will age but it is bound to be a conversation starter.
