A coffee shop in East London is back under fire after customers and onlookers were left offended by ‘racist’ and ‘fatphobic’ signs.

The Bethnal Green coffee shop, called F**koffee, recently received blowback when they posted signs outside their business that read ‘sorry no fatties.’

Luisa-Christie wrote on Twitter: “Hi @F**koffee_HQ wtf is this? Just got sent this by a friend & before you defend as ‘dark humour’ it’s not - it’s fatphobia.

“If the bench isn’t strong to be sat on then don’t put it outside your coffee shop, or alternatively make it strong so anyone/multiple people can sit...”

Previously, the coffee shop also posted a sign that read, ‘this is the longest that something made in China has ever lasted’ - an insensitive reference at the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although the shop has defended the signs as jokes, social media users didn’t share the amusement, calling out the signs as being discriminatory and “offensive.”

And when one person messaged the store on Instagram to complain, the coffee shop replied: “PS: The person posting IS a female. Lesbian, fat and black. So calm down.”

Steph Yeboah, a journalist and blogger wrote on Twitter: “It’s not often I try/want to cancel brands. Holding companies accountable is different to the former. However on this occasion, @Fuckoffee_HQ need to absolutely be cancelled because what on earth?

“Not only are they doubling down on their racism and fatphobia, they are now trying to weaponise intersectional identities in order to justify their abhorrent behaviour. One of my followers DMed them and this was their response. I am 2474848% sure their social media person isn’t a black, fat lesbian woman.”

“Their whole social media presence is just old lame-ass memes and an attempt at humour even my dad would cringe at,” wrote Loz Rex

The owner of the coffee shop appeared to apologise on social media, writing: “As a black person, I saw this as satirical and mocking the stereotypes with which society stigmatises us. My perspective is not yours, and you should not be forced to view it. I will stress that our humour may cut close to others’ sensitivities, but at no point does it emanate malicious intent.”

However a white man, Adrian Jones, is listed as the owner of F**koffee.

Indy100 has reached out to F**koffee and is awaiting comment.
