As tensions continue to mount in Washington DC after Trump supporters stormed the capital,

another US official has landed themselves in hot water due to their ill-advised comments on Twitter.

Gun-toting congresswoman Lauren Boebert is facing calls to resign after she tweeted information about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the attack.

Boebert reportedly tweeted details of the lockdown on the day of the insurrection. “The speaker has been removed from the chambers,” she tweeted on 6 January, referring to Pelosi. She later denounced the “acts of violence” from her official Twitter page.

Boebert has faced major backlash for the tweet from critics who believe she was “aiding and abetting” rioters who were said to be “looking for Pelosi” during the insurrection which resulted in five people dead.

Bizarrely, the congresswoman — who famously insisted she’d carry a glock handgun around DC and in congress — has tried to shift blame to Madonna and Robert De Niro.

In a recent statement she accuses “leading Democrats and Hollywood elites” of encouraging “mob violence to achieve their political goals.”

In a long list of sources, Boebert references Madonna’s infamous response to the 2016 election results. The entertainer said she was “outraged” and had "thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House" during a Women’s March in 2017. Madonna has always maintained that she was speaking “metaphorically.”

Robert De Niro’s past comments were also called out by Boebert. The famous actor remarked that he’d like to punch Trump in the face in 2016.

President-elect Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Johnny Depp and more were also referenced by Boebert in the lengthy press release — although it’s worth noting that none of the aforementioned comments have caused a “storm the capital” response.

As President Trump faces calls for impeachment for his role in stirring up the mob, a defiant Boebert defended her actions in the statement and largely calls out Democrats for their “hypocrisy” in regards to last week’s events.

She said: “We should take Democrats at their word when they say never let a crisis go to waste.”

“Their hypocrisy is on full display with talks of impeachment, censure, and other ways to punish Republican…” she goes on, adding that Democrats “ false attacks go unchallenged.”

It’s not yet clear on what awaits Rep. Lauren Boebert following the backlash but again it seems she should stay clear from Twitter for awhile.
