Kit Harington has checked into rehab for 'alcohol and stress', and people are offering their support

The Game of Thrones star Kit Harington has checked into a wellness retreat to work on 'personal issues' related to 'stress and alcohol', and people are offering their messages of support.

The London-born actor, 32, who is best known for his role as Jon Snow in the hit HBO television series, has reportedly been at the luxury health retreat facility Privé-Swiss in Connecticut for about a month and still remains there.

In a statement, his representative said:

Kit has decided to utilise this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues.

The representative added that Harington had checked into the centre over stress and alcohol use which had 'really hit him hard'.

Speaking to Esquire in April, the star said that he broke down after filming Snow's final scenes:

The final day of shooting, I felt fine... I felt fine... I felt fine... Then I went to do my last shots and started hyperventilating a bit.

Then they called, 'Wrap!' And I just f***ing broke down. It was this onslaught of relief and grief about not being able to do this again.

As soon as the news broke many people on social media reached out to Harington to offer their support.

Some said that it's very important to give Harington space for a while if he's struggling with his mental health.

Others emphasised how bad taste it is for people to make 'Game of Thrones' jokes about the situation.

Some highlighted how many people's views on mental health are still very regressive.

And said that Jon Snow is a hero, but Kit Harington is more of a hero.

Others offered him their respect.

And said that they felt that reaching out for help when they needed it was the best thing they'd ever done.

And wished him the best.

As well as keeping Rose Leslie, his wife and Game of Thrones co-star, in their thoughts.
