Over the last week, social media has been taken over by people sharing selfies from ten years ago to show how much things have changed.
Using the hashtag #2009vs2019, the #10yearchallenge reminds us of a simpler time. After all, in 2009 we were all too busy discovering Lady Gaga to care about Britain's relationship with the EU. As for Trump, he was still busy hosting The Apprentice.
Though, aside from the obvious opportunity to share a photograph where we're all a little younger and probably have a lot more hair, photographs can often be an indication of far bigger changes.
One person whose #2009vs2019 comparison demonstrates this perfectly is model, activist and TV personality Katie Piper.
Piper was the victim of a horrific acid attack orchstrated by an ex-boyfriend in 2008. The attack shocked the world and left Piper's appearance devastated.
Since the attack, Piper has rebuilt her life. She has appeared on Strictly Come Dancing, got married and had a baby.
Accompanying the post, she shared a powerful message:
Don’t let this challenge create anxiety within you about ageing- it’s an absolute privilege. 1st pic me age 25 year of 2009 in my mums kitchen. 2nd Pic is me age 35 last week in my own kitchen 2019!
Following such a horrific attack, seeing Piper make such a recovery is certainly inspiring and puts everything in perspective.
