Reports that John Kelly called the US president an “idiot” are false, he says.
The White House Chief of Staff was forced to deny the claim, which had been broadcast by NBC News, as ‘total BS’.
He issued a statement which said:
[The president and John Kelly] an incredibly candid and strong relationship. He always knows where I stand and he and I both know this story is totally BS.
This is another pathetic attempt to smear people close to president Trump and distract from the administration’s many successes.
In the report, NBC News had quoted two officials who allege they were present when Kelly said that the US president “doesn’t even understand what DACA is. He’s an idiot”.
Kelly also reportedly presented himself as someone who spent a lot of time preventing Trump’s impulsiveness from causing issues in bipartisan deals.
He said:
If it weren’t for me the president was going to agree to some hasty deal.
Not long ago, an image of John Kelly facepalming during an important agricultural roundtable meeting with Trump and members of congress went viral. The US president had posted the image on his Twitter and, after it turned into a meme, appeared to have had it removed.
This isn’t the first time John Kelly seemingly couldn’t keep his thoughts about the White House to himself.
According to CNN, someone close to President Donald Trump said Kelly hadn’t been impressed with him sending his daughter, Ivanka Trump, on a diplomatic mission to South Korea.
