As women, we've all been in situations where men have made us feel uncomfortable, and we've had to resort to saying we've got a boyfriend, as a form of defence.

Now, television presenter and star of The Good Place Jameela Jamil has shared that she was shopping with a friend when a man made advances on her, however, the situation quickly escalated into harassment.

In a tweet, she wrote:

Was out at the shops with my friend. Man ogles me.

Man then approaches me to give me his number.

I explain I have a boyfriend but thank him for the offer.

Man then threatens my career, saying I better remember that I rejected him.

And then Shouts at me that I’m low class...

She also shared a time when she was 19, and a man approached and assaulted her:

I once said no thank you to man when I was 19 and didn’t have an excuse... and he punched me in the face.

After that whether or not I have a boyfriend, I say I do.

Being a woman is truly, constantly scary.

It’s like existing on thin ice.

After reading the story, other women began sharing their experiences of harassment, too.

One explained how a man wouldn't accept that she had a girlfriend.

Another said she was chased after she left the gym...

Another woman said that even despite wearing a wedding ring, she was still assaulted.

Some men offered some brilliant advice, however.

And another said he has a 'zero tolerance' approach to men who're pushy.
