Ivanka Trump, daughter of the ex-US president, has told Columbian investigators that she does not know the “exact title” of Allen Weisselberg’s job at the Trump Organisation – even though the pair worked for the company at the same time.
Weisselberg has been the subject of multiple investigations over his conduct as the chief financial officer (CFO) of the firm, including from the New York attorney general’s office and Manhattan’s district attorney’s office.
The Independent reports that Weisselberg has not been accused of wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, Ivanka was giving evidence about an allegation that a committee for President Trump’s inauguration in 2017 wasted non-profit funds, including more than $1 million in “improper payments” to Trump Hotel.
As part of her deposition, Ms Trump was asked who Weisselberg was.
According to a transcript, she replied: “He is the- I would have to see what his- his- I don’t know his exact title but he’s an executive at the company.”
However, Ms Trump worked as executive vice president for the Trump Organisation from 2005 to 2017, with some arguing that it was likely she would have been in contact with CFO Weisselberg, who had been employed at the company since 2000.
People have since taken to Twitter to cast doubt on Ms Trump’s evidence and mock her comments:
Sounds like it was far from being a sweet deposition for Ms Trump.
