The Bardarbunga volcano in Iceland may have made headlines last month when it threatened to delay flights but it now provides a stunning view from space.
Images released by Nasa earlier this week from the Advanced Land Imager on the Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite show thick plumes of smoke and lava flows from the ongoing fissure eruption.
The top image is a false-colour photograph based on ALI observations in infrared according to Nasa's Earth Observatory website, while the below image is a natural-colour version of the same scene.
