How UK migration patterns have changed, in ten maps

Net migration to the UK is at its highest annual level in a decade, according to official figures released on Thursday.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said that that 318,000 more people came to the UK than those who left in 2014.

Net immigration to the UK first occurred in 1979, then dropped until 1983 but has happened every year since bar 1988, 1992 and 1993.
