Harry Styles fans are calling on the singer to back out of performing at a pre-Super Bowl performance because of the NFL's treatment of Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick was allegedly blackballed by the American football league for leading the campaign to protest institutional racism in the US by kneeling during the national anthem.

In solidarity with Kaepernick, fans got #HarryBackOut trending on Twitter after it was announced he would perform at the Pepsi Zero Sugar Super Bowl party in Miami.

Many pointed out that Pepsi has also been guilty of racial insensitivity because of its 2017 Kendall Jenner ad that seemed to suggest a soft drink and a supermodel were the keys to ending police brutality in America.

Artists like Rihanna and Cardi B have reportedly turned down performing at the Super Bowl half-time show in previous years in solidarity with Kaepernick.

Fans hope Styles will take note of their protest, particularly given that he has shown support for the Black Lives Matter movement previously.

Styles even has a Black Lives Matter sticker on his guitar.

Over 20,000 tweets contain the hashtag.

Artists including Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Lana Del Rey have all pulled out of concerts after fan backlash.

Swift cited scheduling conflicts for suddenly backing out of a performance at the Melbourne Cup Carnival, an annual horse race that fans objected to over alleged animal rights abuses.

Minaj and Del Rey pulled out of performing in Saudi Arabia and Israel respectively when fans called them out.

Styles is yet to respond to his fans' protest.
