Grimes has publicly asked her partner Elon Musk to turn off his phone after one of his tweets was described as “disgusting” and “transphobic" by people online.
Musk went on to Twitter, as he so often does, to cause a stir. This time he tweeted he tweeted “Pronouns suck”.
The tweet prompted backlash from trans allies and activists, who perceived the tweet as being anti-trans.
In a now deleted response, Grimes replied to Musk’s asking him to turn off his phone or to give her a call. She said she "cannot support hate".
Grimes later deleted her reply, while at the time of writing Musk’s original tweet is still public. Musk hasn't made any further comment or clarification on the intentions behind his tweet.
Musk recently declared his support for Kanye West‘s presidential campaign, but said he was reconsidering his stance shortly after when West made controversial anti-abortion and anti-vaxx statements.
It’s been a big year for Grimes and Musk, who welcomed their first child, X AE A-XII, in May. This isn’t the first time the pair have disagreed on Twitter, with Musk publicly correcting Grimes’s explanation for the unusual name earlier this year.
