Toby Young attempted to troll 16-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg, and it backfired badly

Unless you live under a rock, you've probably heard of Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old climate change activist taking the world by storm and generally inspiring awe in anyone that hears what she has to say.

We mean, to put her into perspective, let's all cast our minds back to being 16. What had we achieved? Perhaps the Duke of Edinburgh silver award, or grade three flute? Or, even possibly a few of GCSEs, if we'd worked particularly hard.

Greta, on the other hand, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, met the Pope, and delivered powerful speeches about climate change to the European Parliament in Brussels and Extinction Rebellion in London. Pretty impressive, huh?

Well, one person who remains thoroughly unimpressed is right-wing journalist and Spectator columnist Toby Young, who took to Twitter to express his anger and disgust at the teenager's activism.

In a tweet, he wrote:

Just saw a clip of Greta Thunberg on the BBC News saying 'since no one else is doing anything' it’s fallen to her and her generation to do something.

But Western governments are doing something.

Maybe not enough, but that’s a different point.

When’s someone going to call her out?

Well, the internet seemed to have other ideas and was more interested in calling out Toby instead. Is it really dignified for a middle-aged man to call out a teenage girl?

Some got personal.

Lacking in self-awareness, much?

Perhaps just talk to daddy, he'll sort it all out for you.

Is it, God forbid, jealousy?

Couldn't get people to go to your stag do, could you, mate?

Someone, anyone, please call out this teenage girl!

One dropped the 'c-bomb'. Yes, they called him 'conceited'.

Bring DOWN that 16-year-old.

Honestly, who do these teenagers THINK THEY ARE trying to save the planet!
