Thousands of students across the UK have skipped school as part of a coordinated strike to protest the lack of global action on climate change.
Last October, a UN report estimated that we are a mere 12 years away from the worsening effects of global warming becoming irreversible and students across the world are now taking a stand.
Crowds of protestors gathered today in Brighton, Oxford, Bristol and Sheffield, with more than 1,000 students gathering in London's Parliament Square.
The Youth Strike 4 Climate movement is inspired by the much-publicised actions of 16-year-old Swedish student Greta Thunberg, who staged weekly sit-ins outisde the Swedish parliament to raise awareness for the cause.
Thunberg has been widely comended for her efforts in the fight against global warming after catching the world's attention last December when she spoke at the United Nations, challenging politicans to listen to young people and their concerns for the future of the planet.
Since then, protests in solidarity have been held across the world including demonsrations in Australia, Belgium, Germany, the United States and Japan, and an even larger global demonstration is currently scheduled for 15 March.
