Graphic: The deadliest place in the world to be a migrant

Turmoil in the Middle East, the continuing aftershocks of the Arab Spring, the effects of climate change in parts of Africa and the lure of the EU all contribute to making the Mediterranean the least safe place for a migrant to be.

Boat disasters in the Mediterranean Sea have greatly contributed to the death-toll in the above chart, supplied by Statista, with the sinking of ships off Malta and Libya in August and September accounting for 700 deaths alone.
