The internet was abuzz this week when a video was posted on Twitter of a Golden snub-nosed monkey snacking.
Why is this such big news, you may ask? Not only are these endangered monkeys unbelievably adorable, but they also resemble Ewoks.
Devout fans of George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise will immediately notice the resemble upon viewing the video.
For those uninformed, Ewoks are small, furry mammaloid bipeds that reside on the forest moon of Endor within the Star Wars Universe.
Side by side, these golden snub-nosed monkeys appear as if they could be related to the beloved fictional characters.
Golden snub-nosed monkeys, also known as Sichuan snub-nosed monkeys, are an endangered species that inhabit a fragmented region of China’s Tibetan Plateau. They thrive in montane forests and endure frigid temperatures unlike any non-human primate in the world.
As soon as the video was posted, individuals immediately began commenting on the overall cuteness of the adorable primate.
“I’m sorry, I’m pretty sure this is a toddler in a costume. Nothing is this cute. Also, should this be happening?” one person wrote.
“Ewoks anyone?” wrote another.
Sichuan snub-nosed monkeys are one of the world’s 25 most endangered species belonging to the primate family.
