The girls (penguins) are fighting (competing with members of the same species to reproduce the most young)!
News straight from Dierenpark Zoo in the Netherlands: the queer penguin community is at war.
WARRING LESBIAN PENGUIN COUPLES https://t.co/FY8aHOIS8S— Jill Gutowitz (@Jill Gutowitz) 1603394530
The schism occurred after a gay penguin couple stole a entire batch of eggs from a lesbian pair in the same enclosure.
The duo, named as 'Tux and Flipper', have previous form; in 2019 they nabbed a single egg from a fellow nesting pair.
However it failed to hatch so this year they’ve gone a step further and nicked the entire nest of a lesbian couple.
The boys are used to getting their way – earlier this year zookeeper Sander Drost revealed that they'd taken over two shelters in their enclosure.
‘Each couple in the enclosure have their own shelter but this couple has commandeered two,’ he told RTV Utrecht.
Sadly, it doesn’t look like a happy ending is on the horizon (especially given the lesbian couple are now eggless and nestless).
As the eggs were nabbed from a lesbian couple, there’s a solid chance they haven’t been fertilized yet according to zookeepers.
In the meantime, the wannabe dads are apparently taking turns sitting on the nest and keeping the eggs warm.
Good luck lads but have a bit of (LGBTQ+) pride next time.
