A former television news reporter is making waves online for what seems like a rather extreme career change.
Jim Walker, whose nom – de – plume is Dallas Steele swapped a high octane, 23-year career reporting for the likes of KBAK (CBS affiliate), KBTCV (Fox affiliate) and WBBH (NBC affiliate) to become an adult actor.
The 44-year-old Californian spoke to the New York Post, citing pressure to boost ratings and the rigorous environment as reasons for leaving.
He said:
You know, I loved telling news, I loved breaking news and I loved telling good stories. But I didn’t like the continuous bulls––t that management put you through and the constant pressure to sensationalise and exaggerate what was really true just to boost ratings.
Steele, who was nominated for two Emmys and, throughout his extensive television career interviewed a number of US presidents and Democratic presidental nominee Hillary Clinton, said it was also the death of his partner which prompted him to leave the job.
Steele, who spent four years 'considering' a number of different careers after leaving news, said it was his friend's suggestion that eventually made him venture into pornography.
Having made the switch last year, Steele is uncertain why his story is getting so much attention now, but insists it is not about porn:
My story is about getting out of an environment that’s toxic to you. Whether it’s long-term or temporary, it’s about getting yourself to a place where going to work every day doesn’t make you want to kill yourself.
