Winter is here.

With the coming cold, offices and schools have become cesspools of bacterial infection, and taking the train during rush hour becomes a game of dodgems as you try and avoid people sneezing in your face.

According to the NHS there are over 200 viruses that cause colds, and three which cause the flu; that’s a lot of viruses to dodge.

However, increasing your yoghurt intake could help to prevent you from catching a cold.

Probiotics, or ‘good bacteria’ of which yogurt is in abundance of, reduces the body’s inflammatory response (which is what gives you a stuffy nose and sore throat).

One study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that ‘beneficial’ bacteria shortened the time a person suffered from a cold by two days, and symptoms were 34 per cent less severe.

A spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition, Karen Ansel, said:

There are over 10 trillion bacteria living in our gastrointestinal tract, so you want to make sure the good ones outnumber the bad ones.

Better start stocking up with those multipacks.
