The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) has disowned fundraiser Charles "Chuck" Murray after he sent an email looking to raise funds for Darren Wilson, the officer who fatally shot unarmed black teen Michael Brown in Ferguson two weeks ago.
That's according to The Wire, which reported that the fundraising email, which asked to reward the "hero" who killed Mr Brown, 18, was in violation of the KKK's constitution.
Frank Ancona, who leads the Traditionalist American Knights - one of the largest branches of the KKK - that has its headquarters in Missouri, told the site: "This is not even a Klan member, they don't even have their own legitimate website. It’s a scam, he is just trying to capitalise on the situation... The Klan is not out soliciting money. We do ask for donations from members for different events, we have dues, but this is not the case here."
Mr Murray still claims to head up a faction of the KKK and said in response to Mr Ancona's comments: "I could care less what another Imperial Wizard [term used for KKK leaders] said. The KKK has raised funds. We have already raised nearly $1,200."
