Sir Elton John has said he is "ashamed" of the way the UK has handled Brexit and the internet had a lot of thoughts.
While on stage in Verona on Wednesday, one of the many stops of his last-ever world tour, which is due to last until next year, the singer said:
I am ashamed of my country for what it has done. It’s torn people apart… I am sick to death of politicians, especially British politicians.
I am sick to death of Brexit. I am a European. I am not a stupid, colonial, imperialist English idiot.
This is not the first time the Yellow Brick Road singer has expressed his anger towards Brexit. In July, 2018 he remarked:
I don’t think people in Britain were told the truth to start with… They were promised something that was completely ridiculous and wasn’t economically viable.
But Elton John's comments did not go unnoticed, as people flocked to Twitter to give their opinions.
While some people, including David Lammy, praised the singer for his words...
Other's didn't have many nice words for John, whose biopic Rocketman is currently showing in cinemas.
