The FBI has reportedly gathered evidence which alleges there was ‘collusion’ between associates of Donald Trump and the Russian government.
A law enforcement official told CNN that the evidence being gathered by this investigation suggests that:
People connected to the campaign were in contact and it appeared they were giving the thumbs up to release information when it was ready.
On Wednesday night, Representative Adam Schiff, the most senior Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, told MSNBC that evidence of collusion was ‘more than circumstantial’.
Schiff added;
I don’t want to go into specifics, but I will say that there is evidence that is not circumstantial and is very much worthy of investigation, so that is what we ought to do.
According to CNN, the FBI’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election is focusing on communications between members of the Trump campaign and Wikileaks.
The release of hacked emails written by members of Hillary Clinton's team seriously damaged her campaign.
On Monday the FBI’s director James Comey revealed there was an investigation into Trump’s ties to Russia and election interference.
During his testimony Comey suggested that the Russian government's would have liked to bring about a Clinton defeat, or else destabilise her presidency.
Associates of Donald Trump - Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort, Carter Page, and Roger Stone, have all already been investigated by the FBI.
Speaking on Monday, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer downplayed the significance of Flynn (Trump’s first National Security Advisor) and Manafort (Trump’s second Campaign Manager).
The revelations that a net may be closing in on Trump’s associates has accompanied increasingly vocal denials of wrong doing by those around him.
