A group of students at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University have formed a 'resistance school' to fight back against President Donald Trump's policy agenda.
The 'school' is a free four week course, set up by students who opposed the values on which Donald Trump was elected.
The website for the course explains:
We are a group of progressive graduate students at Harvard who came together in response to the election of Donald Trump, with a desire to help transform our country to better reflect our shared values.
On November 8, we lost more than just the presidency. We lost yet more ground in the decades-long campaign against progressive values. Republicans now control the Senate, House, and more state legislatures than they have in almost 200 years. Those losses have emboldened the right to launch an all-out attack against our nation’s creed – that all are created equal.
The course aims to "sharpen the tools we need to fight back at the federal, state, and local levels" and to "keep the embers of resistance alive through concrete learning, community engagement, and forward-looking action".
The course is divided into four sessions in which students will learn how to:
- 'Communicate our values in political advocacy'
- 'Mobilize and organize our communities'
- 'Structure and build capacity for action'
- 'Sustain the resistance long-term'
Shanoor Seervai, one of the co-founders and a graduate student, said:
We’ve been reaching out to as many people as we can.
We have also had to again draw on our resources, and a lot of students have jumped on board to volunteer.
The course is not affiliated with the Kennedy School and is entirely student-run.
The 'Resistance School' Facebook page have over 4,000 followers currently.
Speaking to the Boston Globe, the students compared themselves to a real life 'Dumbledore's Army' from the Harry Potter books.
They even invited the author JK Rowling to join them
