Women tend to be paid, on the whole, less than men in most industries across the world. In fact, according to the latest figures from the Global Gender Gap Index an average of 32 per cent remains.
Hollywood has been at the centre of gender pay gap controversies, with actresses like Jennifer Laurence and Michelle Williams speaking out against it for the first time.
Bollywood, too, has this problem.
According to Forbes India Celebrity 100 list, which looks at the earnings of celebrities and ranks them, actress Deepika Padukone is ranked fourth. She is the only woman in the top 10, earning $15.9million (£12.45million).
Though she makes a significant amount of money, Salman Khan, who topped the list at number one, and is also an actor, earned over twice her earning.
Salman Khan in contrast made over £28million, even though he works in the same industry as Padukone.
In total, there are 18 women in the 2018 Celebrity 100 list, three less than last year.
Bollywood actresses Alia Bhatt (12th) and Anushka Sharma (16th) made the list, too, and newly married Priyanka Chopra, who wed Nick Jonas last week, came in at 49th.
