Deaf baby hears her sister's voice for the first time and her reaction will make you emotional

A deaf baby’s joyful reaction after hearing her big sister’s voice for the first time is warming hearts across the world.

Eleven-month-old Scarlet had contracted an infection called NEC. She had been born three months premature and developed a stomach infection. Her mother, Caroline Dianne Benjamin, had to make the decision to treat her with antibiotics that, though it cured her of the infection, caused hearing loss.

Her mum wrote on Facebook:

NEC or necrotising enterocolitis, is a common but series intestinal disease in premature babies.

It has been a LONG and emotional experience.

She reacted to most sounds so we thought she could hear fairly well.

The family had no idea, however Scarlet could hear very little and it was her bubbling laughter when she finally had her hearing aid put in that tipped the family off. Her mum thanked Atlanta Hearing Associates in Milledgeville, Georgia, who fitted the hearing aid on her baby.

"Hearing aids make a WORLD of difference!" Benjamin wrote.

Scarlet’s big sister, four-year-old Halie, turned to her and spoke to her: "Baby sister, baby sister."

In response to hearing her sister’s voice properly for the first time, Scarlet erupted in uncontrollable giggles.

The little girl’s sounds were so cute the rest of the family started laughing, with her mum caught between laughter and tears.

"Anyway, enjoy one of the absolute best days of our lives. By the way, I'm crying, you're crying, everyone is crying," Benjamin wrote.
