Cynthia Nixon reveals that her oldest child is transgender

Actress and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon has confirmed that her oldest child has come as transgender.

The 52-year-old who is running for election in the State of New York shared an Instagram post on Friday about her son, Samuel, also known as Seph, congratulating him on his college graduation.

The 22-year-old's dead name - the name he was assigned at brith - was Samantha Mozes, and he graduated from the University of Chicago.

Nixon had Seph with her former partner Danny Mozes.

Her post coincided with New York's Trans Day of Action as well as the city's gay Pride weekend, which is expected to attract 40,000 marchers on Fifth Avenue this Sunday.

Earlier this week, Nixon attracted headlines after she branded the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) a "terrorist organisation" and called for them to be abolished.
