With a General Election before Christmas looking likely, the government are stepping up their social media attacks on other parties.
As part of this, the Tories have decided to put Jo Swinson’s Brexit stance under scrutiny. Swinson, the new leader of the Liberal Democrats, has said that her party will campaign to revoke Article 50 and halt the Brexit process.
In an attempt to highlight their differences, the Conservatives posted a video on social media. The clip has a distinctly “gotcha” vibe, as if to catch the Lib Dem leader off-guard by revealing her publicly stated position to voters. In actual fact, it comes off more of a campaign ad for the Lib Dems than an attack.
Swinson was quick to notice this. She tweeted with the caption:
Oh no! They’re telling everyone! Whatever will I do..
On Twitter, people found the tone-deaf video hilarious, not least because a petition to revoke Article 50 has received over 6 million signatures, making it the most signed petition in UK history.
Would you like some ice for that burn?
