The music video for Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s single ‘WAP’ was the talk of the weekend, but there has still been one point of controversy.

In the video, the two singers explore a lush mansion filled with tigers and snakes, while artists including Normani and Rosalía make appearances. In another cameo, reality star Kylie Jenner appears strutting down a hallway and opening a door, which many took to Twitter to complain about.

Jenner’s appearance has become so fiercely debated in fact, that a petition calling to have her removed from the music video has received over 64,000 signatures.

The reason? “The video was perfect until we saw K and I wanted to throw my phone,” the petition’s description says.

In a comment on the petition, one signee wrote:

She is a culture vulture who doesn’t remember how her own complexion looks! Down with the culture vultures!

Fans online questioned Jenner’s presence in the music video, considering her lack of dancing and singing ability. Others argued that Jenner has repeatedly appropriated Black culture, and that her airtime should have gone to an up-and-coming artist of colour like Rubi Rose, Mulatto and Sukihana, who also appeared in the video.

One fan even took it upon herself to edit Jenner out of the video entirely.

In a series of now deleted tweets, Cardi came to Jenner’s defence, saying that “not everything is about race.”

In another deleted tweet, Cardi also wrote:

Why did I put Kylie on my music video? She treated my sister and daughter so lovely at her kid’s birthday party.

Even if it is controversial, Jenner’s cameo has certainly started a conversation. Like they say, there is no such thing as bad press.
