As we head towards the general election on December 12th, people are unearthing old columns of Boris Johnson’s that seem to prove just who he really is.

In one for the Spectator in 1995, Johnson called the children of single mothers, “ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate”.

He also said it was “outrageous” that married couples had to fund “the single mother’s desire to procreate independently of men”.

Ironically, the comments were dug up on the same day that Johnson pledged that a Conservative government will “support women to reach their full potential” in the workplace, business, and education.

In the same column, he also claimed that working class men are likely to be “drunk, criminal, aimless, feckless, and hopeless”. So much for being a man of the people.

In response to the columns once again seeing the light of day single mothers and the children of single mothers have taken to Twitter to rightfully bash Johnson for his thoughtless comments.

Shadow attorney general Shami Chakrabarti said:

These unearthed comments further reveal Boris Johnson ’s contempt for women and families, as he hypocritically attacks what he appallingly describes as 'illegitimate' children.

Additionally, a Spectator piece from 1999 also shows Johnson (once again) pushing racial stereotypes. In the article he says young people had an “almost Nigerian interest in money and gadgets of all kinds”.

It isn’t the first time the Tory leader has been accused of racism, and has been frequently pushed to acknowledge and apologise for his past comments.

Naturally, people were unimpressed.
