Barbara Walters perfectly shut down Trump in this 1990 interview and people think she's a hero

The Trump presidency has seen many old clips (and tweets) come back to haunt him.

But a 1990 interview with Barbara Walters might be one of the most revealing.

Walters has been dubbed a hero after a 30-year-old interview with Trump resurfaced this week.

In the video, tweeted by @BLONDIE_007_, Walters questioned Trump about his then-recent business failures and rumoured bankruptcy.

Trump replies in a way that we now recognise.

I’ve never seen press reporting as I have in regards to me.

And I hope the general public understands how inherently dishonest the press in this country is.

Walters responds;

As a member of the press, let me try to clear up some of the things that you say aren’t true.

She then reads some of Trump’s own quotes back to him.

Being on the verge of bankruptcy, being bailed out by the banks?

Skating on thin ice and almost drowning, that’s a businessman to be admired?

The clip has been shared thousands of times on Twitter and people have praised Walters for her no-nonsense approach to Trump’s frequent attempts to interrupt and deflect.

The full 18-minute-long clip is on YouTube, and it's definitely worth a watch, because turns out that 1990 Trump sounds a lot like 2020 Trump.

Who knew?
